ATHENA Award Presented to Maureen
Sloan James
June 1, 2005 Huntington Beach,
Calif. — Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach member Maureen
Sloan James was recognized for her efforts promoting the Huntington
Beach Chamber of Commerce and many community organizations in an
awards luncheon held in Huntington Beach.
In addition to a full time position
as Manger of 5 Points Plaza, Sloan James has served on many boards
that include Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach and the
Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau. Sloan James works
tirelessly in a volunteer capacity on numerous community projects,
including the Huntington Beach Chamber's Shop, Play & Stay
sales tax retention program.

ATHENA Award Program®
The ATHENA Award program promotes women’s leadership and honors
outstanding leaders. By recognizing exceptional individuals, the
Award program seeks to inspire others to achieve excellence. ATHENA
Award presentations are celebrations of excellence and often become
premiere community events. The caliber of candidates who receive the
ATHENA Award is exceptional and leads to significant and substantial
recognition for participating organizations.
The Criteria
The ATHENA Award is presented annually by host organizations in
local communities by soliciting nominations and awarding an ATHENA
sculpture to an individual in the community who meets the following
criteria:
The individual actively assists women in realizing their full
leadership potential.
The individual demonstrates excellence, creativity, and initiative
in their business or profession. The individual provides
valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the
quality of life for others in the community.
