Soroptimist International of
Huntington Beach Award Winning Fourth of July Parade Float 2007
This summer, Soroptimist
International of Huntington Beach participated in the 103rd HB
Fourth of July Parade and Celebration. This year, the celebration,
themed “A Salute to the American Spirit,” starting off with an early
morning Surf City 5K Run and Fitness Expo, followed by a pancake
breakfast in Lake Park and then rolls right into the parade. The
Pier Plaza Fun Expo and Entertainment runs from July 1 through the
4th, culminating with a fireworks extravaganza at the Huntington
Beach Pier.
Among the 350 parade entries was the Surf City Bank sponsored
Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach (SIHB) float
showcasing the Soroptimist message, “Best for Women.” SIHB is an
international organization of business and professional women who
work to improve the lives of women and girls. Soroptimist helps
other women and girls by giving them the resources to create
positive change—for themselves, their families, their communities
and the world. In more than 120 countries throughout the world,
almost 100,000 Soroptimist members help women and girls live their
dreams each and every day.
The float was awarded the honor of a 1st Place trophy for it’s
beautiful and colorful design. Riders included the club’s 2007
Women’s Opportunity Award winner, a Woman of Distinction honoree and
teen-Violet Richardson Award winner, as well as members of the
club’s distinguished board.
