President’s Message from Catou DeFriend
Doing the right thing, and having FUN
doing it!
For more than 80 years, Soroptimist International has been working
to advance the status of women and girls in local communities and
worldwide. I am proud and honored to represent our group of
remarkable women as President of Soroptimist International of
Huntington Beach as we celebrate our club’s 44th
birthday on November 2, 2007. In the upcoming year, I vow to
serve to the very best of my ability as we strive to realize the
four goals of Soroptimist International of the Americas:
1. To be
a thriving, dynamic, progressive and relevant organization with
members committed to improving the lives of women and girls in local
communities and throughout the world.
2.
To raise awareness of women’s
issues, enabling women and girls to lead better lives.
3.
To raise sufficient funds to
accomplish these goals.
4.
To raise public awareness
about Soroptimist and it’s efforts to improve the lives of women and
girls.
While we strive to realize these objectives, we
must have a great Soroptimist experience and make sure our fellow
Soroptimists do too. We have work to do, but we can only have
fun helping other people if we’re having fun doing it! The
more fun we have, the greater our value to ourselves, to our
community, and to the world.
John D. Rockefeller said “Next to
doing the right thing, the most important thing is to let people
know you are doing the right thing.” Let us share the fun we
have with others, continue to raise public awareness about
Soroptimist, and inspire others to join us as we have a blast
promoting the advancement of the status of women!
